Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

This post contains affiliate links.

Is there anything better on a cold morning than a steaming mug of hot chocolate topped with whipped cream or marshmallows? A steaming mug of peanut butter hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and drizzled with peanut butter!

This recipe is easy and delicious.

Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

11/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup of 60% dark chocolate chips
1/4 cup creamy peanut butter

Garnish

Whipped cream
2 tablespoon melted peanut butter

Directions

Put the milk, chocolate morsels and peanut butter in the Vitamix, place the top on the blender. Start on low and then increase to highest setting and run blender for 5 minutes. You can also use the soup setting.

Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream and drizzle with peanut butter.

You can also make this without a blender on the stovetop.

Simply place the milk, chocolate and peanut butter in a sauce pan and cook on low-medium heat, whisk constantly so that the peanut butter does not burn on the bottom of the pan.

Enjoy!

Espresso Hot Chocolate

Cold, winter days call for a vat of hot chocolate simmering on the stove all day long. That way it is ready when you come in from shoveling, sledding or making snowmen.

I love hot chocolate and drink it with fleur de delnutellaraspberry, Irish cream and more. I love it topped with homemade marshmallows, marshmallow fluff and of course whipped cream.

Today I decided to make espresso hot chocolate for those that love chocolate and coffee.

Espresso Hot Chocolate

3 cups whole milk
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chopped
3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 cup of espresso

Bring milk to a simmer, then add the sugar, salt and the chopped chocolate, whisk until smooth and creamy and the chocolate is melted. Add espresso and stir to combine. Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Enjoy!

Fleur de Sel Hot Chocolate

According to the ground hog we have a few weeks of winter ahead and this week it is back vengeance here in my neck of the words. The cold has returned as have the winter winds making it the perfect weather to stay in, watch movies, read and drink hot chocolate.

I love hot chocolate, chocolate chaud, drinking chocolate, and every other hot drink made with velvety chocolate and cream. My morning beverage is  French chocolat chaud but I do like to try variations on that recipe.

This week I decided to try a Fleur de sel chocolate chaud, otherwise known as sea salt hot chocolate. I love the salty sweet combination of chocolate with salt. Although I have made salted brownies, salted caramels and several other salted desserts I have never made salted hot chocolate so I thought I would try it.

Fleur de Sel Hot Chocolate
Recipe from David Lebovitz

5 oz. quality chocolate Valrhona Dark Chocolate 72%
11/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1-2 Tablespoons of brown sugar

Garnish
Whipped cream
Chocolate Shavings

Heat milk and cream over medium heat in a small sauce pan. Finely chop the chocolate and once the milk/cream mixture comes to a simmer remove from heat and add the chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is dissolved and then return to heat and whisk for a few minutes to thicken. Once finished add sugar to taste and if you would like to kick it up, a shot of borbon or Bailey's Irish cream. Pour into mugs top with whipped cream, shaved chocolate and a pinch of Fleur de Sel de Guerande Sea Salt. Typically I make a double batch and put whatever is leftover into pitcher, it thickens up considerable and tastes even better the next day.

Then sit down, relax and enjoy!

This recipe is easy and delicious, I hope you try it.

Note: I used Valrhona Araguani Dark Chocolate Bar 72% because it is easy to find but use whatever chocolate that you like. And I use Fleur de Sel de Guerande Sea Salt  because it is a brand recommended by David Leibovitz one of my favorite cookbook/bloggers/chefs.

Irish Hot Chocolate

  • Winter to me means hot chocolate, for breakfast, lunch, snack and sometimes even dinner and dessert. It is the perfect beverage for taking along skating, sipping on a snow day or a weekend morning.

  • A cup of hot chocolate brings back so many happy memories of my mom waiting for my siblings and I to trudge home after a day of sledding or even just 20 minutes out frolicking in the snow. She would be stirring a pot of her special cocoa on the stove ready to ladle it out. This scrumptious Irish hot chocolate is the perfect nightcap after a long winter day.

  • Irish Hot Chocolate
Recipe from Bourbon and Honey

  • Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 oz semi sweet chocolate, chopped
  • Pinch fine sea salt
  • 1teaspoonVanilla Extract
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons Irish whiskey or Bourbon

In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and whisk in brown sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate, salt and vanilla, just until brown sugar is dissolved and chocolate is melted. Do not let the mixture simmer.

Whisk in milk. Continue cooking until mixture is steamy and just beginning to simmer, about 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in whiskey. Serve in your Chocolate PotTop with marshmallows or whipped cream. Serve and enjoy!

If you have never made homemade marshmallows I highly recommend it, they are easy to make and delicious! I used this RECIPE,

Decadent Spiced Bourbon Hot Chocolate

Tis' the season to be jolly...I don't know about you but with Christmas just a few days away I am feeling a little stressed. I cannot wait until until I have the last of my tasks finished and I can sit down and relax with a drink and a book and wait for Christmas.

Cup vintage, similar here, similar napkins here).

With the winter chill roaring across the country hot chocolate is going to be my drink of choice for the coming week. I decided to combine a few of mine and my husbands favorite ingredients to make a decadent, spiced and spiked hot chocolate. Cinnamon and chocolate are a perfect combination, add a shot of two of bourbon and I think you have a drink that everyone can enjoy. Obviously if you are serving kids leave out the bourbon.

Cup vintage, similar here, napkins old, similar here

Decadent Spiced Bourbon Hot Chocolate

11/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons powdered sugar or to taste
8 oz. 72% chocolate chopped
2 ounces of Bourbon whiskey

Garnish with whipped cream

In a saucepan over medium heat add the cream, milk, cinnamon and powdered sugar, whisk to combine. When bubbles form around the edges turn the heat to low and whisk in the chopped chocolate until melted and incorporated. Add the bourbon and mix to combine. Pour into cups and garnish with whipped cream.

Viennese Hot Chocolate

  • Good morning! The winds of change are swirling here, yesterday it was 74 and today it is 40! Time to settle and and get ready for winter. To me that means comfy blankets, piles of books and magazines and copious amours of hot chocolate.

This morning I decided to try a little Viennese hot chocolate and I loved it, it takes me back to my time traveling in Vienna. It is rich and delicious and even better, it is so easy to make.

  • Ingredients

  • 3 cups of low-fat milk
  • 7 oz premium dark chocolate, grated
  • 1 T granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 T confectioner's sugar

Directions
In a sauce pan, gently heat 1 C of milk with grated chocolate. Simmer over low heat until all chocolate has dissolved. Combine remaining milk and granulated sugar in another saucepan and gently heat, whisking until all sugar has dissolved. Add chocolate mix to sugared milk and continue simmering over low. In a bowl, whisk heavy cream and vanilla together on high slowly adding confectioner's sugar until peaks form. Remove hot chocolate from heat and divide into cups. Place a generous dollop of whipped cream on top of each. Garnish with a pinch of cocoa powder or sprinkle with chocolate shavings and serve.
  • Makes 4-6 servings, depending on mug size.

  • Enjoy!

The Best and Most Decadent Hot Chocolate EVER

I love hot chocolate and drink it everyday, sometimes twice a day. I have my "go to recipe" but am frequently searching for that chocolat chaud that takes me back to my travels in France and Italy. If you have been to either country you know the sort of drink I am talking about, almost like a liquid ganache. Rich, chocolaty and so good that you really only need an espresso cup full.

This recipe is the closest I have come to the chocolat chaud at Angelina's in Paris and frankly it could not be easier.

Decadent Hot Chocolate
Recipe from Tasty

8 oz. 72% chocolate chopped
11/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar or to taste

In a saucepan over medium heat add the cream, milk and powdered sugar, whisk to combine. When bubbles form around the edges turn to low heat whisk in the chopped chocolate until melted and incorporated. Pour into cups and garnish with whipped cream.

It is excellent the first day but I think it tastes best the next day or even the day after, it gets thicker and richer.

Enjoy!

Chocolat Chaud or French Hot Chocolate from Dorie Greenspan

As we are in the path of the storm of the century I have armed myself with all of the provisions needed especially a pile of books and a pot of chocolate chaud. What more could you ask for?

This recipe a perfect treat on a cold day, or any day for that matter. It is from one of my favorite cookbook authors and bloggers Dorrie Greenspan, it is her version of Laudree's chocolat chaud.

Chocolat Chaud or French Hot Chocolate
Recipe from Dorie Greenspan

11/2 cups of whole milk
21/2 Tablespoons of water
21/2 Tablespoons of sugar
3 oz. bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped

In a medium saucepan combine the milk, water and sugar, place over medium heat and whisk until the sugar is dissolved. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring to just a boil. Remove from heat and add chocolate, whisk the mixture until the chocolate is melted. Then blend the mixture with an immersion blender or pour mixture into a traditional blender. If using a blender BE CAREFUL and when you put the top on do not add the little plug and put a towel over the hole. Blend for 1 minute.

Pour into cups and enjoy! You can garnish with whipped cream and cocoa powder if you like.

Enjoy!

Mississippi Mud Pie Hot Chocolate

Good morning! Another chilly day here in the South, but I guess that is ok as it is Winter. On cold mornings like these I love the make a big pot of hot chocolate so that I can start the day with not only something that I love but something that is chocolaty and delicious.

So much better tasting than oatmeal, not necessarily healthier but definitely more chocolaty, that is unless you are having some of my scrumptious Chocolate Chip Oatmeal

Mississippi Mud Pie Hot Chocolate

Recipe from Phillip Ashley Rix
The Local Palate Magazine December 2015

11/2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heave cream
1 vanilla bean split
4 oz. dark chocolate
2 oz. milk chocolate
1 tsp. Ceylon cinnamon
2 oz. bourbon(optional)
mini marshmallows for garnish

In a medium pan combine milk, cream and the scraped beans from the vanilla bean as well as the pod. Set over medium heat until hot.
Add chocolates, stir until completely melted and incorporated. Turn to low, add cinnamon and stir.

Remove the vanilla bean. Mixture will thicken as it simmers, be careful not to scotch the mixture.

Stir in the bourbon and remove from heat. Pour into cups and add garnish.

NOTE: I do not add the Bourbon when I make this, but a lot of people love it this way for an afternoon or evening drink.

I hope you try this or one of my other Favorite Hot Chocolate Recipes! Stay warm and have a great week.

Hot Chocolate with Eggnog Whipped Cream

Good morning! I hope that your week has been great. Can you believe that it is the night before Christmas? Where did the time go? Tonight is the time to relax and enjoy your time with family and friends.

My favorite drink on a cold winter day, or any day for that matter is a steamy cup of hot chocolate. Recently I have discovered that a dollop of egg nog whipped cream makes it the perfect winter beverage!

 Eggnog Whipped Cream

1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/3-1/2 cups of egg nog
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
1/2  teaspoon ground nutmeg

Place whipping cream and egg nog in a chilled bowl and whip until medium soft peaks form, then add powdered sugar and nutmeg and whip just a lit more to incorporate. Do not over whip or you will have something resembling butter.

Top your favorite hot chocolate (or try on of the many I have made here in the past few years) or hot beverage with a dollop of egg nog whipped cream and enjoy!

I hope that you have a wonderful day and a very Merry Christmas!

Polar Express Hot Chocolate

Once of my favorite things to do at Christmas is to watch all of the classic movies, both new and old, Rudolph, Frosty, White Christmas, Elf and of course the Polar Express. I personally love the "hot chocolate" scene and dance.

In the next few days before the holidays why not make a batch of Polar Express Hot Chocolate, flip on the movie and enjoy a little time with your family and friends?

I discovered this recipe from Honey & Fitz several years ago and just made it this past week. It is easy and delicious!

Polar Express Hot Chocolate

11/2 cups of heavy cream
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
2 cups Ghirardelli Bittersweet Chocolate Chips
6 cups whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large pot combine all the ingredients listed above and cook over low heat for 30-40 minutes and all ingredients are melted and incorporated. Stir frequently. Serve with whipped cream, marshmallows or just enjoy it plain.

I hope that you enjoy this holiday season!

If you like hot chocolate I have a Hot Chocolate Board on Pinterest with this recipe and about 400 others!
